OK, I give up. Search after search on the web and still they are not available. Even the HD-R media is now out at about £1.20 a disc but still no burners.

Whats the deal? Anyone know whats going on here? Loads of Blu-ray burners are out there, but with silly media prices. I suspect manipulation by certain parties........

I wish I knew. Although I did manage to get my hands on a prototype from Toshiba. I'm actually testing it this weekend - I'll report back what I see - if anything :)

Toshiba has 2 or 3 burners listed on their website, but after searching the internet, I can not find them for sale anywhere. I think what is happening is that all the burners are earmarked for OEM PCs and laptops.

2 or 3?

I could only find this one - SD-L902A which is a slim line version presumably intended for note books.

Toshiba are also the only mainstream supplier of Laptops which seem to ffer the HD writers. Go look at HP, Dell etc and all you can get is Blu Ray writers with the occasional HD ROM drives.

This is all very frustrating.

Note to the HD camp - get your bloody skates on and get HD DVD burners in the market otherwise Blu Ray is going to win the game by default of you not being there!
