Convert H.264 to DivX?

Hello,

I have a Quicktime HD video (1280x544 px) that I would like to convert to either DivX or XviD. What is the easiest way of doing this, so that it will retain the picture quality and the pixel dimensions?

avidemux works (but only supports xvid, not divx)

any video conversion will lose quality, but you can play with the configuration, settings, bitrate, etc...

Here is one way. Take VLC player and make sure it will play the movie. Then instead of playing the movie tell VLC to stream the movie to a file; a *.mpg file. This file will be a non compressed file so you may need to be on NTFS to hold this large of a file. Then you can use this file as a input file to AutoGK or Dr DivX to make a avi/divx file.

Where is the problem with that?

Xvid produces exactly the same video format as DivX does:
MPEG-4 Part-2, Advanced Simple Profile (ASP)

I never indicated that there was a problem.

I was replying to the OP: "I would like to convert to either DivX or XviD", and replied: "avidemux works (but only supports xvid, not divx)." :D

(avidemux is a great, underappreciated tool, btw)

One issue, though. If I encode it with MP3 audio, it comes out not synchronized. If I do it with AAC, however, it's fine. Any idea what's wrong?

Do you use "CBR" or "VBR" ???
Maybe you want to try "CBR", because "VBR" MP3 in AVI is tricky...

Also make sure your source video plays in sync, when you play it in Avidemux.
If not, then adjust the delay/shift on the left side menu!
