Re-Authoring "Toy Story 2" w/ Problems

I stripped all contend not needed using VobBlanker, and removed 2/3 video angles using IfoEdit to make the 6.4gb original dvd down to 4.35gb.

However, I kept the commentary track, and that's where I run into issues. Clicking on "Commentary" from the menu and clicking "OK" to enable it a) still plays the main movie audio, and b) turns on the English subtitles for the movie.

What can I do in PgcEdit to correct this? I checked in PgcEdit already for all SetSTN entries for audio and subtitle streams and manually, one by one, disabled them, but that didn't work.

I can post screenshots of the files in PgcEdit or upload IFO files (if that's allowed). Thanks guys!

Disabling the SetSTNs won't help. They are there for a purpose.

Did you move the stream positions at all? If so, move them back to their original positions (and re-enable the SetSTNs).

There were some audio streams I deleted in VobBlanker, then deleted the entries for them in PgcEdit, but that's it. And I did re-enable the SetSTN comands.

Any suggestions?

Sure is. It's the very next audio track right after the main movie 5.1 audio. If I choose to play the movie first, then use the remote the commentary track plays fine.

I know I could just disable the option to choose the commentary track from the dvd menu, and then just access it via the remote, but I really want to figure out why it's not working to enhance my slow understanding of dvds and their structure.

Go to trace mode, and set a breakpoint on SPRM 1. Run the trace, and go to the audio selection menu. Select the commentary. Continue to trace up to the next change of SPRM 1. At this point, you should be able to modify the value that is stored in the SPRM, or, if it's an indirect SetSTN using a GPRM, set a breakpoint to that GPRM and start over.

If it's too complicated, use blutach's advice, and shift the audio to place it back in its original position.

Well, your basic methodology should have been to:

- Delete the streams (and other unwanted content) in VobBlanker (or whatever) then
- Hide the buttons for the deleted streams in PgcEdit

That's it! No need to play around with SetSTNs - they can't be set (unless they are set via a test from a preferred audio or subic language).

Sorry for the n00b reply, but what does SPRM 1 refer to? When I enter "trace mode" and click on Run, after about 20 seconds the dvd menu pops up. I'm unsure of what I'm looking for inside PgcEdit. I've only used "trace mode" once before.

As for blutach's advice, I never shifted the audio out of position though. I deleted 4 audio streams but looking at the commentary track inside PgcEdit, I noticed it maintained it's original audio stream number.

The SPRMs hold some internal value used by the player. SPRM 1 holds the current audio stream number. To enable the breakpoint, go to the trace menu (in the bottom left part of the main PgcEdit window) and select Breakpoints -> SPRM write breakpoints -> SPRM 1. When that breakpoint is enabled, the trace will automatically stop whenever the value stored in SPRM 1 is modified. You can then analyze what's happening, and if the value corresponds to the stream number.

If the streams have not been shifted, you should still be able to select the commentary from the audio menu. Please do this: go to Info -> Streams, and copy/paste the content of the dialog here. We will be able to verify if the streams have been shifted or disabled.

The commentary audio track still uses the ID 0x86, and that's good, but it has been shifted in the domain stream attributes, and it's why you cannot enable it via the audio menu.

Try this: click on the audio slot #6 in the PGC editor, and enter stream 6. In other words, suplicate the setup of audio stream #1 to audio stream #6.
Then, go back to the main window, right-click on the main movie PGC in the left pane, and select "Domain Stream Attributes". PgcEdit should ask if you want to create the missing audio entries. Answer yes. Then, in the stream attributes window, copy all settings of the second audio track in the last one. This way, you will duplicate the commentary track (stream #1) as stream #6. You will still be able to select stream #1 with the remote, but stream #6 will be selected if you use the audio menu.

Note that after this change, if you cycle thru with the remote, you will hear normal audio, director's comments and director's comments again then normal audio, but this should not be a big deal.

By the way, this is one reason why you should never use DVD Shrink's logical remapping of enabled streams - or only do it after using the test in the DVD Shrink plugin.

I didn't use DVD Shrink. I did all the stripping via VobBlanker. Maybe an option in the config is b0rking the streams order when I remove certain streams?

Hi!

My R1 version of "Toy Story 2" contains both a Widescreen version and a Fullscreen version. Simply deleting either one (and deleting nothing else) brings the size down to one that will fit on a DVD5, with no audio-related problems...
