If I have a DVD where I simply want to change the original menu (it was created with an LG DVD recorder so has the bog-standard LG menu) to something more appealing (change background, etc), what free software do I need and how do I do it?

If I want to put chapter marks in it / alter the chapter marks, is it very much more difficult?

Thanks in advance!

Try "GUI for DVD Author"

Thanks, but it's pretty complex for a newbie. It was using terms that I had no idea what meant, and didn't seem to address the problem I have.

I think that may be meant for far more experienced users, because I was lost by the second paragraph of the instructions.

Hi!

If you only have one, or a few, such DVDs, try "TMPGEnc DVD Author" v.1.6. You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

Hi-

If you simply want to change the background menu to a pic of your choice, it's pretty simple. Follow my guide here:

Scroll down to the section at the bottom of the post named The Easy Way

Adding or changing chapter points requires a demux, adding of the chapters, followed by a remux. It's not all that hard, but just takes some time.
