I want to make a HDDVD that is coded with avc codec to an MKV with x264.
I want to downgrade the image forum 1080p to 720p and make it fitt on a dual layer dvd.
Can anyone help with a step by step tutorial because this is my first work.

busta, everything you need to know is already posted in the forums here in one place or another.
First you need to decrypt the HD DVD onto your hard drive using something like DumpHD. Second you need to demux the audio and video streams with something like EvoDemux. Third you need to set up an Avisynth script (with the necessary filters) to decode and frame serve the video to an encoder. Fourth you can use an encoder like MeGUI to encode the video with x264. And finally you can remux the new video with the audio into an MKV with something like MKVMerge.
This is not the only way to do it, but searching for these programs on the forums and educating yourself will get you a WHOLE lot farther than repeatedly bumping this thread!

If you don't want to try learning it yourself from the info here like we all did then perhaps you should wait until HD backups are more mainstream and there is a one-click solution. BTW there are several guides on this site that talk about exactly what you want to do. Look in "New and alternative video codecs."

Now that info is exactly what I've been jumping all around this forum looking for. Seems like something a lot of people would be looking for. Maybe a sticky would be a good idea:sly:

I don't know about the guides and I haven't seen any stickies that give the simple overview of the process like lazyn00b's post.
Thank you busta for bumping your post:devil:
