Video playback jerky as hell after format/reinstall!

Hi

I have a acer laptop with core duo 1.86 processor and 7300go video. When i bought it new it had windows vista installed but recently my hd currupted and i had to do a format/reinstall. I got hold of a disk (new laptop no longer come with oem disks for some reason) and formatted and reinstalled. I have loaded all the relevant drivers from the acer website such as video driver etc and all looks well in device manager. I have the latest xvid and ffshow codecs installed and the lastest wmp software (as well as vlc and bsplayer).

All my video is now really jerky.. xvid, wmvs h264.. basically everything. It stutters every second or so. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Or any ideas as to solve or diagnose the issue?

So VLC is also effected? Because it has internal decoders, etc. If it is also effected then I would be thinking video driver related.

Always get video drivers from the maker (nvidia, amd, intel, etc), not the OEM. Otherwise you're guaranteed to get one years out of date.

Another possibility, if you haven't completely replaced the hard drive, is that it's still corrupting and having issues reading that reset transfers to PIO mode. Check the primary IDE controller in device manager. If that's the case, replace it immediately, but for a short term fix, uninstall the controller and reboot.

Thanks for the replies guys.

When i said i needed a reinstall the hdd itself wasnt really currpted it was just really slow, bogged down with all the stuff id been messing with (audio conversion video editing etc) and my wireless card wasnt working properly so i decided on a clean install which i have done every 12months or so on my desktop for years.

I did download the nvidia one, and yes vlc is affected the same as wmp11. Any more ideas?

Ps i have requested disks from acer but wether i get them is another matter

If it's applicable to your system, have you checked DMA settings for your hard drive?
