View Full Version : Audio sync problem on MPEG1s when authoring

Hey all. Newbie here with a couple of questions.

But first up, a HUGE thanks to the doom9 forums for providing so many answers already. Though this is my first post, I've already had excellent luck solving NUMEROUS problems by searching through the archives. That said, here's the problem:

I've got a set of DVDs that were made from a set top VHS to DVD converter. Dopey home movies and stuff, many quite embarassing :) Bad news is they're all out of order, and I'd like to edit, remove, trim, re-order, etc.

With the help of other threads, i found out how to use DVD Decrypter to extract the contents into one big .vob file. The vobs on the dvd contained MPEG1 files that seem to be VCD compliant. Numerous complications and weird protection forced me to extract as one big vob.

that vob file has perfect sync for video and audio when I open it in Windows Media player

I have found MPEG-VCR to be the ONLY tool that can output a new MPEG1 that has the audio and video muxed, and in perfect sync. I have watched the extracted/trimmed files in Windows Media player, and they are fine. (and believe me, just getting to THIS phase took me a few days) I've tried MANY tools to demux the vob, but the sync always gets thrown off in the output files. Hence, I'm using MPEG-VCR. Outputs good, in sync files.

but now, when I try to author a new DVD using these MPEG1 files, the audio is out of sync in the final product. I thought I had it licked when MPEG-VCR output those in-sync files, but they fall apart when TMPEG DVD author outputs. They are even in sync in the preview/edit window in the authoring program

I dont' want to have to re-encode the MPEG1 videos, as there are TONS of them, and I don't see any improvement in quality.

As with all the other newbie posts, I'm sure you'll need more info, but I'm not sure what I should present.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
