Help! Can't encode to DivX anymore.. where are my mp3 options?

I use Xmpeg.. I've also tried FlasKMpeg (same program basically).. and when I try to choose my audio options, it only goes up to 56Kbits/sec for mp3. What happened to the higher rates? So I installed the LAME codecs.. and when I choose one of those, Xmpeg says an error occurred while generating the file (as soon as I start the conversion).
How can I resolve this? I've got a couple movies lying around waiting to be converted (from .vob format) and burned to VideoCD.
Thanks!

this is a common problem that happends when you install mediaplayer 7 or +
the mp3 codec that is 'in' the divx codec is an hack of the Fraunhofer mp3 codec, (professional version).
( legitimity of this codec is not my purpose here)
but since it is considered as a hack , some software including mediaplayer 7 will re-install the normal codec from Fraunhofer
but in basic licence which dont allow encoding at more than 56kbit.
( but can plays all bitrate fine).
search google for more info on the different licence if you need it.
(e.g: http://www.iis.fhg.de/amm/techinf/layer3/ )
but to solve your problem , you could try to reinstall the divx codecs , in order to try to get your audio codec fixed, or to encode with lame ( but in this case, be sure that the software you are using will use lame and not the restricted codec, and if it's the case you wont be able to use higher bitrate than 56k)
