i like to know if it is posiball to trick the h.264 avi file so my hd dvd player things it a ordanary xvide avi file
my standalone dvd play can play xvide file and it can play 1080i the probles is that do not know the h.264 codec, and no ther is no firmware opdate

H.264 is a completely different video format than MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid, DivX, etc), although both can be stored in the AVI conatiner.
Hence you can't play H.264 video on a player that doesn't support it explicitly! There is no way!
You'll have to convert (re-encode) your H.264 video to the MPEG-4 ASP format. Of course there will be some loss, but it's unavoidable.

Furthermore I highly doubt there will be a firmware update to enable H.264 playback on your DVD Player.
That's because H.264 is much more complex (and more powerfull) than MPEG-4 ASP. Hence H.264 needs suitable hardware.
Software (firmware) updates can't unleash new features, that aren't supported by the underlying hardware!
