my CPU is Athlon 4000+,when i try to transcode my videos from RMVB to x264(maybe that's stupid~)by mencoder, it crashs every time,i tried three different builds of mencoder i still crash.unless i change the CPU sempron 2800+.it seems duo core doesn't work well with mencoder when it meet rmvb.how can i deal with it? is there any other builds complied?please help me :stupid:
p.s there is no problem when i trans other kinds of video with mencoder, just rmvb......

Have you tried setting just one thread in your x264encopts? If MEncoder still crashes, maybe the 4000+ X2 simply overheats (decoding RMVB is harder than decoding MPEG-2). Does it always crash at exactly the same position?

You could compile one yourself. It's not that hard.

thx so much!i use the wismencoder as the frontend of mencoder and i am totally newbie so i don't know how to set just one thread in my x264encopts, by the way,the cpu is far from overheating and it always crash at exactly the same position:scared:

Ok, so you're doing this on Windows? In that case compiling MEncoder may be a bit harder. What specific versions have you tried?
I'm not sure how WisMencoder works, but does it show you the full command-line that it uses for encoding? Or even logs? Otherwise it may be a bit hard to tell what is going on.
If you can't get (Wis)MEncoder to work, why not try other alternatives, such as MeGUI or StaxRip?
