Hello. I'm a video encoding nub. I've been struggling with this project for quite sometime now, and I really don't know where else to turn. So let me start by telling you a bit about my project.

I have 12 ~4.25gb AVI files created with fraps. These are 60 FPS, widescreen, 1280x720, and total 20 minutes of playback.

I'm trying to get them on to a DVD that you can watch on a television as well as a PC.

Now, I was able to just drop the stream of files into Nero Vision, burn to a DVD, and the output was pretty nice on my PC.

When I tried it in my DVD player, the output wasn't as great. The first thing i noticed was the cutting off of the video by the TV overscan area. I need to see the entire video, any overscan isn't acceptable. Playback was a bit jerky as well.

So I've been trying a few different things. I understand that i need to add 10% black borders to overcome the tv safe area. I imported my files into Adobe Premiere, and I overcame the overscan problem, but the quality of the final video on the dvd player was atrocious. I selected High Quality, and i believe all the right input/output settings. There are a few static frames in the video that just have a big paragraph of text, but when using Adobe Premiere it was painstaking to try to read.

I could really use some expert help, and can provide whatever other info necessary. Thanks in advance!

Just a quick update... I was able to figure out some of the problems after 32 different tests today. The best looking output came from adjusting the workspace settings to 10% of the original size of the video clip, and then exporting from there. I guess before i made the workspace 720x480, resized the video down, and then re-encoded to mpv to 720x480 again.

Now my my new problem is ghosting... There is a news crawl at the bottom of my video that looks perfect in the source, but when it converts to 29.97 frames, it blends half of the before and after frames with the current frame, and it's really straining to read. I've been reading articles on progressive versus interlacing, but i'm not sure how to resolve this issue.

Any help out there? Thanks !

Another quick update:

I scrapped the whole thing and tried out avisynth with vdub and using nero for the dvd burn. I added borders 10% borders, and resized to a wide DAR.

So far so good, and it looks amazing on PC. The problem now is when i load it on a standalone DVD player, the playback is jerky and is stuttering.
