I noticed when I ripped with XviD, I had GMC on which would give GMC frames. I was just wondering why x264 had something like that. Is it a redundant compression feature?

GMC is a pretty useless feature. Its overly complex, when in reality, the vast majority of the improvement gained from GMC could be replaced by the ability to set an "average motion vector" for the frame and base all motion vectors off of that one, so that redundant motion vectors don't have to be coded.
H.264/AVC's prediction features basically allow the equivalent of this, making GMC entirely unnecessary.

Fair enough. No point hanging onto something that's useless. Thanks Dark Shikari.
