Can't skip parts of .wmv-movie

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but let's give it a try.

I have a .wmv of which the first part is very boring, so I want to skip it to 40:00 or something. However, when I try to do so, the movie just stops and stays on the screen it was.

How can I make the video "skippable"?

"Skippable" or seekable?

Use AsfBin, AsfTools (Make Seekable) or Windows Media File Editor (from Windows Media Encoder) - open video file and save to new (reindexing).
