So far, my xmpeg crashes everytime at starting the second pass of encoding woth DivX 4.12. I couldn’t encode any film, by using the 2pass und 1pass settings. Until now the file that is coded on my hdd, is exacly 16384 KB, may be that is a clue for you. The settings of the 1st and 2nd pass are absolutly the same, that is not the problem I think. And yes, I had installed Flaskmpeg before I installed Xmpeg, but I completly removed all entries in the registry that leads to Flaskmpeg, but it did not use anything. Then I read that Windowx XP can’t handle very good with MP3 Codec, I removed all Windows XP MP3 Codecs and installed the Radium MP3 Codec v1.263, but also that didn’t use anything. Do u have any indea were the problem is situated??
May my divx video settings can help you:

2-pass, first pass:
Performance/quality: Slowest
Bitstream: that from the bitratecalulator
Maximum key frame interval: 300 Frames
Max CPU usage: 100 % (activated)
Deinterlace: deactivated
Default postprocessing level: 2nd stroke of to the left
Maximum quantizer: 12
Minimum quantizer: 2
Rate control averaging period, frames: 2000
Rate control reaction period, frames: 20
Rate control down/up reaction: 10
Encoding quality: 0 %
Frame dropping: 0 %

2-pass, second pass:
same settings as in 1st pass, only the variable bitrate mode is set to 2pass – second pass

I use Radium MP3 Codec v1.263, every time at 96 kbps.

Xmpeg v4.2a Settings:
Video: Framerate: 25 fps
iDCT: Auto selection
Reconstruct progressive images is deactivated
Audio: Decode Audio (on)
Same as Input, set to 48000
Post processing: Format: YV12
Filtering: Bressenham
Keep aspect ratio is on
Pixel aspect: 1:1 (VGA)
General: compile whole file is on
Search size: 10000 KB
Overlay (Automatic for YUY2 or YV12) is on
2nd Pass Enabled (for multipass Plugin) is on
2nd Pass Enabled (for DivX4) is on

These are my complete settings for encoding with Xmpeg 4.2a, may bei t helps you a little bit.
Sorry for my bad english but i am german.

Nevertheless thx in advance

I have that problem as well, where XMpeg creates a 16384K file, and exits completely from the program (this is not typical). I wonder if it is just the movie, because I have ripped many DVD's, and it has only done that for 2 (Seven Years in Tibet and Talented Mr Ripley).

Does anyone know what this might be and how to fix the problem?

I solved my problem by deactivating the max cpu usage, now all movies will be encoded.

that didn't work. i depends on the disc i think. does ANYONE get this problem?

Check my last post.

don't have the link, but it discusses the same problem on this matter, in this forum.

Thank you for almost helping me.

I can't find your 'last post'. Did you actually get anywhere with the problem?

Please link to your posts. It's like a librarian telling you the book you're looking for is somewhere in the library.

OK,

sorry about the last post. you are right, my last one didn't help. I'll try to do so now.

you have some erroneus settings that can be better.

first,

de-activate max CPU usage. thats not necessary because if your OS isn't processing other commands, then the program will assume all available CPU cycles to get the job done accordingly.

second,

Here are some new settings for the quantitzer values. I don't have my machine in front of me, however I'll quote you the numbers from the top right, down. there are 5

18
2
3000
25
10

third,

for your Frame rate, are you autodetecting it or are you forcing it?
Please don't force the frame rate. Almost every time I have talked to people about this problem and most others, its because of the forced frame rate. It should autodetec correctly upon loading the .vob files into Xmpeg. DON'T FORCE THE FPS UNLESS YOU ARE POSITIVE THE AUTODETECTED FPS ARE INCORRECT. If it turns out that upon completion of the encoding, that the sound is not synched properly or you have skips every few seconds, then you might want to change the fps.

fourth,

DO NOT check "Compile whole file"
It won't work with 2-pass. you must un-check this and manually enter a value for the movie IN SECONDS. This is what I do that is simple, upon loading the .vob files in Xmpeg, you shall see a box that has the movie time (i.e. 1:49:47) covert this into seconds (i'm sure i don't have to tell you how to do this) and you should input that number into that box.

honesly, I think this problem of yours is because of the "compile whole file" box

Fifth,

don't use same as input, uncheck this and make the sampling rate 48000 Hz or whatever the value is. Same as input sometimes gives sound errors in synching.

well, this is all I can come up with right now,

I really hope this helps you.

Please post again if it doesn't and we'll try to find something that works.

chip [you forum junkie you ;) ]

I already had everything set up like that, except the new quantizer values. What does changing that do?

That lets the codec take more bitrate at those max and min values, but not over that.

Its quite useful for less active frames and more active action scenes.
