PowerDVD Resolution Problem...

Hey there,

I hope this fits in here. I now got a new setup and wanted to watch my first blu-ray disk. So I opened it up in Power DVD 7.3.3xxx and well it played nice on my LCD Screen (1280x1024) BUT I want to watch it on my new TV that is connected via DVI/HDMI and has full hd resolution. Video plays fine there too but if I now maximize the picture to fill the screen I only get a 1280xidontknow surrounded by a large black frame. I just tried to set my TV to be the primary monitor but I get the same results. Any idea, why this is and how I can finally get full hd on my full hd screen?! Thanks in advance.

It's a stupid bug Cyberlink added in recent PDVDs. You can either rollback to 3104, or wait till NVidia release a new driver to fix (ATI have done).

I got a similar problem on my CRT monitor. The lower ~30% of the screen is is just a streched verion of the upper part of the screen. If I play it in window mode and keep the window above the lower 30% of the screen the picture is fine.

How many versions back of Powerdvd do you have to go to not get this bug?

A possible fix to this is to make your TV screen, screen 1 in the display settings and your desktop on screen 2. Might work, might not. It's definitely PowerDVD not being able to "talk" to the overlay hardware properly becase of updated graphics drivers.

Here's how I fixed this:

1. Open up your nVidia panel
2. go to configure muliple monitors
3. in the drop down, choose the configuration that puts your HDTV in the left hand side and your computer screen on the right.
4. Set your computer screen as your main monitor.

Now, if you want to double check, go to control panel and fire up your display settings and you should be at the tab that has a picture representation of both monitors. Click the button that says [Identify Monitors] and your HDTV should now be labled as 1 and computer screen 2.

Of course, if your computer screen is physically to the left of the HDTV, you'll have to move your mouse to the left to get it to the right screen, LOL!

I recently had this as well.. I then installed the latest nvidia drivers and things went back to normal.
Going back to an older PowerDVD version would probably fix it as well as the problem only occurred after I updated PowerDVD (right now I don't need playback from HDD).

Installing the latest drivers works for me too. Too bad that nvidias own media player "Nstant media player" that comes with pure video doesn't work at all with the latest drivers. Guess there is always something that doesn't work.
