View Full Version : Why do some copying take so long?

Hi all.

This has bugged me for some time and I hope someone can clarify it for me please.

The other day I backed up 2 of my DVDs using DVDFab Platinum (express) on my Pen 4 MHz PC.

The first backup up took about 8 hours yet the second one only took about 25 minutes.

Both were dual layer to single layer and about the same size.

This is not the first time this has happened. Can anyone please explain?

My guess would be that the first disc was not clean and, therefore, the ripping program was slowed in copying (multiple re-reads per sector)...

Hi setarip_Old

The DVD's that I copied were a couple of ex Video store purchases, with no visible scratches and clean.

I was advised by the store that they run the DVD's through their 'clean-up' machine before selling to ensure we buy the best quality re-sales.

Any views on that also?

Now I will be s**t scrared to buy a pre-loved DVD LOLI'm sure any reasonable dealer would give you a refund or an exchange for a DVD (used or otherwise) that simply doesn't play...

Maybe one DVD was re encoded while the other one wasn't.

Hi guys.

Just as an experiment, I tried another burn on that "Slow" DVD.

Surprise surprise, this time it went through at the normal speed, so go figure!

After that little experiment, it is a likely assumption that the fault may have been caused by the actual 'blank' DVD not the master copy.

Either way, i am not going to waste another blank to prove my point :D
