View Full Version : Audio/Video not synchronized on DivX Player but plays ok on PC

I have these video files encoded in XviD + MP3 and when I play them on Windows Media Player or GOMPlayer (my player of choice) they work fine and the audio is in sync with the video. However, when I burn the files to a DVD and play them on my living room DivX/XviD Player, the audio/video is not in sync...

Any reason for this? How can I fix it?

MP3 VBR or CBR?
Framerate NTSC and standalone player configured for PAL (or the opposite)?
Delay fix or progressive?

MP3 is VBR... The video files framerate is 23,976, not sure about the player configuration, I'll have to check it.

Delay fix or progressive? I don't understand this question how do I check that?

Delay fix : same delay at beginning and end of movie
Delay progressive : delay increasing from beginning to end of movie

The framerate is for NTSC country, sorry but I don't know the video system at the "Hell".

If you are in a NTSC country and the Delay is progressive you can use VirtualDubMod, extract the mp3 vbr (Streams -> Stream List -> Demux) and use Lame to convert to CBR.

After converted to CBR use VirtualdubMod to change the audio track (Streams -> Stream List -> Disable the vbr, Add the cbr), with Video -> Direct Stream Copy, Save as a new avi.

If the problems come from VBR is better to look for a firmware for your player which will solve that problems.
What is exactly the name of your player?

The delay is fixed and as far as I know I'm on a PAL country, I'm your neighbor, from Portugal :P

@mtz
Actually my player is one of those you used to make firmwares for (if you are who I think you are). Yamada 6600. But as far as I know, there haven't been any updates to this player lately or I am wrong?

I don't know your player check if you can config it to play NTSC (or any AUT option).

If you can't upgrade your firmware maybe you need add this fix delay when reencode the mp3 vbr to cbr.

BeLight (BeSweet) or BeHappy (AviSynth) can do the job.

My player has only one option to change between PAL/NTSC and changing that, the image gets a bit weird though, on the menus at least. I have to test it with a video and check if the audio plays correctly.

I can upgrade the firmware, if there is any new update which I don't think there is. As far as I know, development of the firmware for my player stopped long a go.

I don't think reencoding to CBR is going to be a solution because I have 150+ files encoded the same way and I don't know how could I reencode them in CBR in a batch.

Yep, the TV must accept also NTSC.

I read other thread and seems you want use VirtualDub to do the job with a batch system.

Warning:
- VirtualDub don't work well with mp3 VBR
- To delay an audio stream VirtualDub can add padding bytes at the beginning but not real mp3 silence. This method is not always compatible.

I don't remember when 6600 had problems with mp3 VBR. For sure it had with AC3, packed bistream, subtitles, etc.
Here you can find the latest Yamada 6600 firmware for language code page 1252 (western europe): http://www.mytempdir.com/2063944
A big pdf made by alwaysconnected which owns this player is also included. He is using this firmware which also include .srt subtitles reading.

Sorry to report back just now, but I only have the change to play with my player when I'm at home and is during the weekends.

I just upgraded with the firmware you recommended and tried the same files as before but it still didn't work out. However, the problem is not exactly the same...

Most of the files have the audio start like 2 seconds after the video starts (this is ok, the original problem is that the audio is only a bit delayed by a few ms) but with the firmware you recommended, the audio starts right way when the video starts. I don't understand why... Another thing I noticed is that I fast forward the files a bit and, sometimes, the audio was in sync, but some other times it wasn't...

This is really weird, I never had any other problems with any other files...

Any ideas?

The problem is in the movies, not in the firmware or player. Some non-standard things regarding the audio.

Hmmm, maybe the problem is the avi container, if your standalone supports ogm for example, try to use it, or, try some different audio codec... Also, xvid with some advanced options is not well supported on standalones...

I've run into this a few times--played fine on PC, out-of-sync on standalone (Philips 5960). What worked for me was to remux the files using AvimuxGui. I don't know why, but these particular files (FLVs with vbr mp3 I converted to xvid/mp3 AVIs using FlvExtract and Vdubmod) had the same problem you describe. AvimuxGui mux worked with standalone, Vdubmod did not. Might be worth a shot.

@Nazgulled

Hi!

Perhaps too obvious a question but, do your original DVDs, from which you created the XviD videos, exhibit the same asynchronous behavior when played on your standalone DVD player?

Mtz was right. I fixed this, demuxed the mp3, transcoded it using besweet and it fixed the issue. I think it was regarging the sample rate.
