MPC Playlist Item Invalid

I searched but I couldn't seem to find reference to this issue.

Ever since I had to wipe and restore my hard drive about two months ago, Media Player Classic refuses to playback items burnt as data to standard DVD-R (and presumably, also +R) if they're added to the playlist. It'll play them fine if individually loaded, just not if opened all at once. It arises from a faulty pointer - it reports that it's not looking at the DVD drive at all, instead it's looking at:

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

And since there isn't anything in that folder, it errors, saying the item is invalid and 'File not found'.

The playlist works fine otherwise, it's simply trying to use it with the DVD drive that causes problems now.

Am I simply missing something that was installed prior to two months ago, because it worked fine with the drive before then. It displayed this behaviour with 6.4.9.0 - and upgrading to 6.4.9.1 didn't help, as it does exactly the same thing.

Did you try MPC home cinema first? Lots of bugs fixed there.

If that still doesn't work, you might want to turn off microsoft CD burning all together: If you have GPEdit (http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1297/xp_pro_vista_prevent_cd_burning), or if you don't (http://www.theeldergeek.com/cd_burning.htm), and don't forget to disable the service (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/rdgrimes-turn-off-xp-burning-service-87108/).

You lose drag-to-disc, but you can do that with IMGBurn and every commercial burner out there anyway.

I hadn't tried Home Cinema first, although when I did it displayed the same issue. However, disabling IMAPI and doing the registry fix did solve the problem, thanks. I guess maybe the reason for it working from before the restore is because I had gone and disabled services through msconfig one time, and IMAPI was probably among them then.

I've never liked XP's internal burning capability, so it's not a loss that I can't use it. I assemble images before burning anyway. Now if I could only find how to fix the fact that disc names won't properly display on insert unless I terminate Explorer's process and bring it back up again first...
