edit: if this doesnt belong here (mb in the decrypting section?) then please move it, thanks!
how can I demux .ac3 audio from a .vob file? I mean only from 1 vob file, which includes audio tracks (and 1 ifo file), no other .vob files that contains a video track. therefore using all the usual progs like dvd decrypter wont work, because they always require to have a complete disc entered :S

Hi!
Load the .VOB into VirtualDubMOD.
Then click on the "Streams" dropdown menu, highlight the .AC3 audiostream and click on the "Demux"/"Demultiplex" radiobutton...

after the parsing of the interleaved mpeg-2 has finished I get an error message: "MPEG import filter: no video stream!"
i cant choose the streams menu then. i guess this is because the file doesnt contain any video stream at all.

You can use DGIndex to demux audio-only streams.

@Thunderbolt8
Based on a project I completed a while back, using Muxman, I was under the impression that, in order to create a .VOB, one had to at least create a blank videostream of some duration.
Please enlighten me - How did you create an audio-only .VOB?

Please enlighten me - How did you create an audio-only .VOB? If you select only an audio stream from the Stream Processing tab and nothing else, DVD Decrypter will create an audio-only VOB for you.

If I remember correctly, that's merely the extender that DVD Decrypter tacks on to the demultiplexed audiostream. If you did that to extract what is actually an .AC3 audiostream, I believe what you would actually get is an .AC3 audiostream with a ".VOB" extender.
If you change the extender to .AC3, it will play very nicely as an .AC3 audio file...

Make sure that the VOB does not have seamless branching or multiple angles because otherwise many usual ways to demux audio fail miserably - including e.g. DGIndex. You'll still get an audio file with a reasonable file size, but the audio will be scrambled. In my experience DVD Decrypter is the most reliable way to handle DVDs with seamless branching and multiple angles. It's just too bad that DVD Decrypter expects a full DVD... :(
