Help Please: WVC1 or WMV9

I am using Encode360 to convert my .mkv files to wmv and I have the option of encoding using WVC1, WMV9, or WMV8. I know WVC1 is the best quality, but it is extremely slow! My question is, is the quality of a WVC1 encode of an HD movie that much better than a WMV9 encode or WMV8. Because if it is not that much of a difference than I would rather not use WVC1 because it takes almost 20 hours. I only have a 720p tv by the way. Somebody please help me

Firstly, wrong forum! This is AVC, you're asking about WMV. ;) Don't re-post it, but I'll report it to get it moved.

Secondly, WVC1 isn't necessarily the best quality, but it allows more options. WVC1 is the MS implementation of VC-1 High Profile. WMV9 is Simple and Main profile. WMV8 isn't VC-1 at all, and is inferior in quality at the same bitrate to WMV9 and WVC1, but very quick encoding. Do you have a target file size? If not, I'd set a high quality setting for WMV8 and use that instead if you're concerned about speed.

Why don't you run some tests your self? The encodes don't have to be a feature length movie, but just a trailer or other short clip.

Frankly I am all about quality, and encoding time doesn't matter. If it is worth it or not is totally up to you.

You likely won't see a difference between WVC1 (Advanced Profile) and WMV3 (Main Profile) in encoding speed because the encoder backend is the same. What will make a difference are the encoder settings that you use.
