Encoding to MPEG-4 with H.264

Hello,

actually I'm a newby in this area (that's why I'm positing in this forum :) ) and I'm looking for some tools to encode MPEG2 videos into MPEG4.
Because I want to encode the videos for my iPod I first thought of using QuickTime Pro. But this tool is not for free and doesn't support either MPEG2 nor AC3 sound.

So, does anyone know any good tools for this task? They must not be for free but the quality should be quite good.

Any help is appreciated.

There are tools like MeGUI, Xvid4PSP, AutoMKV, RipBot264 and so on...
Look into starting thread of each tool and decide whick one you would prefer: all are good, some more easy to use, some more powerfull.

MeGUI has iPod profile, Xvid4PSP too, dont know about RipBot, but think too it has.

use megui.download,install and update, it has got an ipod profile in it.
