I use to encode avi files with virtualdubmod, in order to reduce there sizes to less than 700MB, and it works fine.
I encode them to Xvid MP3.

But i have a problem with two avi files:
The encoding begin as usual, but it get stucked at a certain point (at 95% for one of them, I don't remember for the second one) without continuing to encode.
And then, all that I can do is to abort the job.

Do you know what is the problem?

Thanks a lot

Not without a lot more information, starting with your logfile.

@bob2000

Hi!

1) Load the problematic .AVI that you created into GSpot and post a screencapture back here

2) Does your ORIGINAL .AVI playback properly, from start to finish?

3) Does the source material (presumably a DVD) that you used to create your ORIGINAL .AVI play properly from start to finish?

Re-reading your posts leaves me perplexed:I use to encode avi files with virtualdubmod, in order to reduce there sizes to less than 700MB, and it works fine.
I encode them to Xvid MP3.my original avi file playback properly from start to finish, and the dvd too.1) Why would you first convert your original, commercial DVD to a DivX-compressed .AVI - and then convert that .AVI to an XviD-compressed .AVI?

2) Why don't you just convert your original, commercial DVD DIRECTLY to XviD-compressed .AVI?

@bob2000, If you have Creative Labs mp3 codec installed, then that might be the reason.

Try this. Go to Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Hardware tab -> Audio Codecs from the list -> Properties -> Properties tab. If you have ctmp3.acm listed there, right-click to get Properties and say Do not use this audio codec.

Now retry the encode.

hi,

the dvd is of my brother (and he lives now in another country).
he have ripped for me the dvd on my computer, but it is 815MB and i now want to burn it on a 700MB cd.

i don't have Creative Labs mp3 codec installed on my pc, and no ctmp3.acm in the Audio Codecs list.

do you have another idea for me? :)

thanks a lot for your help

Have him mail you a copy of the DVD (assuming it is a self-made and not a commercial DVD).

do you have another idea for me? :)Hmmm..Then it could be some other audio codec which is giving you this issue (I've usually seen this problem when compressing audio). Do you know what audio codec you want to use? If so, you can raise it's priority. Navigate to the list of audio codecs the same way as mentioned in my previous post, find the audio codec you want to use, and raise the priority to 1.

If that still doesn't work, retry the encoding without the audio and see what happens. I want to isolate the issue to video or audio.

hi,

thanks for your answers.

i tried to encode only the video (by setting "Direct Stream Copy" for the audio), and still the same problem.

what do you think?

thanks again

What video processing options do you use - fast recompress, normal recompress or full processing mode? Fast recompress can create problems sometimes.
