mainconcepts colours problem

hi all,
everytime i reencode a mkv file with mainconcept v2.1 the colours alwayas look washed out and not as vivid as the mkv. Ive tried double the bit rate to around 8mbps but the video stream never looks the same. anyone have any idea's to what im doing wrong???

Sounds like a Colormatrix problem, or a TV->PC luma conversion problem, or both.

Indeed, what media player are you using? If you're using something like VLC (This is from my personal experience) then it won't do any changes to fix color output from TV to PC.

If you use media player classic though, you can fix it using Haali's Splitter by setting it to correct color from TV --> PC. Only annoying thing about this is if you feed it video that's already in PC levels, it'll make everything darker then it needs to be and you'll need to set it back to PC --> TV.

Im using powerdvd 7.3 to playback the video.
Ive convert a 1280x720 23.976fps to 59.94fps and mux it to make a hddvd.
Im also playing it back on a xbox 360 and that has the same results.
Also i cant find any options in haali media splitter that says anything about tv-->pc!

I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't give you the exact directions of where it would be. But, under mpc: Right click screen --> filters ---> Haali splitter ---> First screen there should be information about the colorspace used and then which color levels to use.

But, now that you mention it as being problematic on both the 360 and your PC, it does sound like a color matrix issue.
