View Full Version : Output size too large for DVD-5

I use DVD-RB 0.98.2 free version.

I tried to compress a TV series with 4 episodes.
I first used DVD Shrink in re-author mode with no compression to create a set of DVD files (and remove unwanted audios) so that it contains only the features without any menus, extras.

I then passed to DVD Rebuilder but it always ends up in a size of 4.38 GB (DVD reduction level is 59.6% shown in the status window) which does not fit into a single layer when I tried to create a ISO file with Imgburn.

I originally thought it relates to the TargetSectors option in the ini file. The original value is 2256000. However, even I changed to a lower value (2246000) the result is the same ie 4.38GB. I even delete the TargetSectors line, but the status window still show a reduction level 59.6%. (I abort the job since then.)

Is there any way to produce a suitable output size of about 4.35/4.36 GB or is there a limit of compression that DVD-RB can process?

Did you do a new prepare after reducing the targetsectors line in the INI? This is necessary.

Yes I did, in fact I re-booted Windows and restarted DVD-RB and repeat the whole process, (as a matter of fact, I actually deleted all the files in the RB Working directory for the third time ie after I deleted the TargetSectors line) but still got the same result.

Btw, not sure if that matters, I use a Traditional Chinese version of WinXP and have to set the language to English for non-unicode programme under Control Panel to avoid buffer overflow error.

OK, I may have found the reason, as I have saved my first job as a Project file and I have been using the same Project file to do the processing despite having changed the TargetSectors line. Would the project file remembers all the settings of the first job??

Yes, of course. Open Project.RBD in wordpad and have a look at it. The target sectors are saved in the project file. This is undoubtedly the reason.

You need not reboot but you do need to do a full prepare.

Thanks for advice. So, I can simply edit the project file with a lower value of target sectors and re-load the file and re-start the whole process.

I'd do a full prepare - it takes 2-3 minutes. The project file is really just an INI file plus some extra info. If you are messing round with sizes, a prepare would be in order, I would think.
