need some help here.; i was able to put a recorded movie on my external hard drive from my dvr.... when i open my external hard drive i got these files..
MyMovie.001 1,540,096 kb 001 file
MyMovie.002 758,756 kb 002 file
MyMovie 1,540,756 kb transport file
MyMovie 879 kb subtitle file

the first two files reminded me of a rar file so.. i just extracted them and it combined both 001 file and 002 file and it made a larger file
MYMovie 2,298,864 kb
but this file has no extension and i cant figure it out what type of file it is...i tried some software like hdtv to mpeg2 but when i convert i only get a 3kb file as a result... im just trying be able rip and convert this movie to an avi file... any type of direction would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advanced

What model is the dvr? I've never seen one which would compress them into rar files. It should just dump the transport stream.. unless its drm'ed / encrypted but then there is a low chance of getting to the recording.

yeah... i starting to realized that it is encrypted... the only thing i can do is just seperate the audio from it using project x
but i cant change it to a mpeg no matter what software i use.
or even view it... been at it for two days....i just hooked my external hard drive (simple tech) to the back of my (other)dvr.... through usb.... then hooked the external hard drive to the computer and view the files... but thanks for your response....
