Hi,

I have a DVD that contains a cool menu and many cool extras in addition to the main feature. I have edited the VOB for the main feature (VideoReDoPlus), and I can produce a working DVD using DVDAuthorGUI; however, it only has the main feature on it.

Is there some way I can replace the VOB files on the file-image of the original DVD with the updated VOB files so I can drop my edited feature back-in with all the original menus, extras, etc.?

I have tried just replacing the VOB files, but my DVD player says "INVALID_TITLE". It refuses to display the menu and will only play the main feature. Maybe I replaced too many or not enough files?

Here's the directory listing of my original DVD:

I tried to rename all the VTS_1_*.VOB's to VTS_5_* like the original and copy in all the other original files, but that did not work, as I described above. Maybe there is a checksum somewhere...

Which files can I copy to make the new DVD be just like the original except for the main feature which I edited? Surely, I don't have to reauthor the menus and extras? That is what I am trying to avoid (rebuilding the menus, etc.), because I don't know what authoring tool to buy, or if what I want is even possible.

Thanks!

Well, I did a little more reading and experimentation. Finally, I got the process to work reliably.

I renamed all the VTS_01_*.VOB files from the newly edited, authored DVD tree to VTS_05_*.VOB. Then, I deleted all the VTS_05_*.VOB files from the old tree and copied in the new ones. I burned the "slipstreamed" tree and - Voila! - I got an edited DVD with all the trimmings of the original - extras, cool menus, etc.

The trick was not to copy over any more files than necessary from the edited version into the original. I think I must have copied a BUP or IFO file from new to the old, and I should have stopped at just the VOB files from the edited version.

Now, the chapters do not line up, so scene selection from the menus is very much out of sync. Plus, I do not have subtitles or other "overlay" audio. Maybe I can do some more experimentation and get those weaved back into the feature too...

Well, I didn't get any help this time. But, thanks to all those who viewed the original post and gave it some thought. This is a super useful forum, and I appreciate everybody's volunteer time. :) I have enjoyed lurking, and I shall return to it. :D

If anybody has some clues on how to re-align the chapters, re-introduce the other audio tracks, etc - basically how to restore everything I lost when I edited the original VOB, I would appreciate it, but it's no big deal. I already got what I really wanted. The rest is icing!

:thanks:

Hi, use the resultant DVDAuthorGUI DVD movie title, rip the original (skip if still on HDD) and simply use PgcEdit’s “Replace VTST Titles” function. Keep in mind of whatever video cuts were made the other audio streams need to be in sync. I honestly don’t know how VideoRedoPlus cuts, but demuxing and loading the video & multiple audio streams into Mpeg2Schnitt (http://www.mdienert.de/mpeg2schnitt/homepage/download.html) should work!, and later mux them with your favorite authoring program.

Also there's a program called TitleWriter (http://www.dvdshrink.info/titlewriter) which lets you re-add the originals menus.

Edit, using VobBlanker (http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/vobblanker.htm) would had been easier (strip, cut & save)!
