Does anyone use high bitrates with YouTube?

Hello guys,

I know some people are playing with high bitrates (up to 8 Mbps) when encoding videos for YouTube. I wonder did someone uploaded popular videos with high bitrates (700 Kbps and higher)? Did YouTube's staff delete them?

I'm planning to upload to the YouTube hundreds of videos, uploaded to my website by visitors. What do you think, should I upload videos with high bitrates or those videos will be deleted in few months?

I've asked this question in YouTube's API forum and some guy from YouTube answered "I wouldn't : )".

Remember of course that 2x the bitrate = limited 5 minutes, 4x the bitrate = limited to 2 minutes, etc.

Why not just use Stage6?

It's so buggy. I can't see 80% of movies for example (Firefox). And it's not just me (read video comments).

Do you know similar services where high resolutions and high bitrates allowed?

Just tried IE, still doesn't work. Look at there tech support, there is 2 messages about my problem ("Couldn't download video").

Also, it needs installing ActiveX for IE users. Very bad idea.

It crashed my Firefox on Mac two time during past 10 minutes. It's terrible, cause Mac is extremely stable.

I don't want to hurt users, by all these problems.

I have been playing around with stage 6 and i have found that you can upload videos encoded with xvid if you change the fourcc to that of the standard divx one.

I wondered how good stage6 would be on platforms other than windows as divx has always normally been biased towards windows machines when it comes to software etc.

the real question is when will h.264 decoding get into flash and how quickly will youtube start to use it not very quickly i suspect.

I had a lot of problems with that f Stage6. It hang you cpu during playback and streaming and then crash your explorer. Opera, Firefox and IE. All of them.

Stage6 has never been buggy with me, and I've never seen any comments about it.

The only downside of stage6 is the fact that it requires another player and the plugin is a little on the heavy side in terms of resource usage.

I don't even bother to change the fourcc. I leave them XviD all the way. I've got about 150 videos at Stage6 now, all XviDs.

In terms of alternate OS's my Sabayon and Ubuntu installs play stage6 stuff fine once the mplayer plugin has been installed in firefox. Works great.

It wants the divx web player on XP/firefox.. I wonder if anything else will work instead?
