Hi,
If either of these two capture programs is used on an NTFS drive under XP, will I be able to capture to a single large avi file (10+ gig for 1 hour capture) instead of multiple segmented avi files?
Thanks.

VirtualDub definitely can (to a NTFS drive). Don't know about the other one.

You can't go above 4 GB with AVI-IO because it doesn't have support for the OpenDML v1.02 (AVI 2.0) file format which removes the 4 GB limit for AVIs on an NTFS partition. You can go above 4 GB with VirtualDub because it supports AVI 2.0.

Maybe you can try SuperVideoCap (http://www.mysupersoft.com), I used this program to capture movie. It is very great! :)
