it seems like my single layer disk last longer and hardly get any errors compared to double layer.. i get a lot of double layer disk that skip or glitch even after only playing for less than a week. also seems like they scratch easier.
anyone know why?
i think im going back to single layer.. just sucks cause i have to compress a lot of the dvd.
im using tdk for both single and double layer.
also using dvd shrink 3.2

Weak or miscalibrated laser, possibly, since the one layer already uses a weaker laser strength than normal. Or shoddy disc or a drive that really just doesn't handle dual layers well, or both. Even a bad layer break. Hard to tell without a lot of testing different brands of everything involved, discs, drive, and software.

One thing most people overlook is media compatibility :). Its quite possible there is a firmware update for your drive that resolves the issue you are having. Every DVD drive I've seen has had at least one firmware update available, and in most cases these are to resolve problems like you've been having.
Firmware is kind of a bios but for your DVD drive. Most people probably aren't aware that such updates exist for their drive! Hard disks also have updateable firmware, although its very rare that an updated firmware is required. Even the Logitech Mx3200 keyboard+mouse combo has an updated firmware for the receiver!

Hi!
Thusfar, most brands of D/L burnable media have proven to be less-than-reliable. Additionally D/L DVD-R is a format to stay away from.
Presently, according to many posts at this and other forums, Verbatim D/L DVD+R media continue to be uniformly successful.
