Since I recently had some trouble with getting a DVD properly encoded to x264 I made an excel sheet that calculates the following:
Source DAR to Target DAR ratio, i.e. how much your encode is stretched/squeezed.
Bits/(pixel*frames), useful if you don't want to check compressability and some other things.
How much vertical resolution is lost.
You can also either set the bitrate or the desired size (with audio bitrate taken into account). Height/width is automatically corrected to both neighbors dividible by 16 giving you two results from which you can choose one based on the other values given.
I don't know if it's useful to anyone, but it's tailored to my needs and so at least to me it's very useful... :) If you don't like it for specific reasons or think some more numbers should be calculated, please let me know.
