Hey everyone,

i actually thought I kinda know about Movies and never had a problem viewing movies in what ever format since i am using the VLC player. But a few days ago my girlfriend and me tried to watch an ordinary DVD from a Video Store. As I dont have a standalone DVD Player is just used my notebook which is pretty new about 8 months and should be able to play DVDs due to its build in DVD Drive. I installed a couple of other DVD Software but nothing helped. That evening was kinda wrecked.

Any help? :helpful:

Cheers

I imagine it was one of the many advanced copy protection schemes. The studios really don't like PC-compatibility, and don't see how much it damages our goodwill toward them. For times like this, you can either rip it to hard drive with RipIt4Me, or buy AnyDVD which will silently decrypt and unprotect almost any DVD in existence in the background.

Which DVD and region was it, out of curiousity?

I had the same problem with Curse Of The Golden Flower R2. VLC couldn't play it nor MPC. Had to reinstall PowerDVD to play it :-( Oh dear - not a great ad for Open Source. Of course DVDFabDecrypter has now enabled it possible to do an unencrypted backup! Their changelog in mid sept reported new copy protection for this dvd.
