Hi everyone
I've got a huge movie collection. all encoded with xvid codec (some with QPel some not).
My questions are:
1. is there a website with a comparison of the chipsets in mpeg4 dvd players.
2. i heard that mediatek based dvd palyers can play xvid movies which were ecoded with the option quarter pixel turned on.
is that right?
3. Is there another chipset which can play xvid with qpel?
4. which dvd players are mediatek based?
please name some... (but remember i live in germany!so only name players which are sold there)
thanx a lot
PS: i'm searching for a good player (i got a xoro and it sucked! chinese crap!) maybe a philips or so)
it should be sillent while playing.

I own the 5980, don't know what chipset is in it (not in manual) but I'm guessing Mediatek.
It plays pretty much every .avi file I've thrown at it , think it even supports Qpel. No problems with VCD, DVD +R(W) etc. either. Also has a USB slot.
All in all a nice and cheap player IMO

@BlumiThe Ripper
Hi!
It appears to be a MediaTek chipset:

God Morning
I've prepared 2 streams for testing:
Here is the first (xvid with qpel and b-frames):
http://rapidshare.com/files/64077996/dh-testfile__xvid_with_qpel_and_b_frames_.avi.html
and here's the second (xvid only b-frames):
http://rapidshare.com/files/64078376/dh-testfile__xvid_only_b_frames_.avi.html
I hope I know how to handle with rapidshare...
download the first file then restart your router or if u have dial-in connection log out and again in and load the second file...
it would be nice if u can test both files and give me a feedback wheter it works or not...

Hehe relax I'm not glued to my computer ^_^
(I prefer sendspace.com over rapidshare, because you have to wait after you download 1 file on rapidshare and I don't have a dynamic IP)
Anyway, the conclusion:
Both files played fine both from DVD+RW & USB stick :)
