I have created several AVIs of around 2.1Gb which I would now like to archive to DVD. I have Nero 6 which of course won't do it (I believe due to it using an old implementation of the ISO 9600 standard). I read that ImgBurn would be a better solution but assuming that is the case I'm slightly confused about which file system format to use and seem to get a different answer everytime I ask elsewhere so I'm hoping that someone here can give me a definitive answer. The AVIs need to be able to play with VLC on my Windows XP pc but at some point I'd like to pick up a divX compatible dvd player and play them on that too. So, which of the following do I need to choose?

ISO9660
ISO9660 + Joliet
ISO9660 + Joliet + UDF
ISO9660 + UDF
UDF

My inclination is to go with "ISO9660 + Joliet + UDF" but is there any drawback or overhead to choosing that format. Basically, I'v been going round in circles with this and would really appreciate some help deciding.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

HiI have Nero 6 which of course won't do itSure it will - Just select the "DVD-ROM[UDF]" icon...

Just make sure that, when you purchase your .AVI compatible standalone player, it's capable of playing back .AVIs of that size. A case in point is the somewhat "ancient" Philips DVP 642/37. It will play such a file up to the 2Gb point and then play it no further...

Use ISO9660 + Joliet + UDF. This way, you will have the maximum compatibility with standalone players and operating systems.

Adding a file system consumes some space, but don't worry. The space needed is insignificant, especially if you burn only a few large files. BTW, ImgBurn has an handy info tab where you can see exactly how much space is needed before burning. You can therefore easily check the difference.
