Problem with brightness

I wnat to convert a VCD to DivX, the problem is that every second frame os the movie is like 200 or 300% brighter than the others. Now I wnted to know if there is a way to 'soften' this brightness, (with some filter or so...) so the movie becomes more 'pleasent' to watch.

PS: I'm converting the movie with VirtualDub and it takes 11 hours to encode falf of the movie, is there a way to do this faster?

The only filter I'm aware of that addresses temporal brightness variations is Donald Graft's deflicker plugin for Virtualdub.

With regard to processing time, it's just a matter of processing power. If you're using a large, complex filter chain, it's going to take a while. Otherwise, 11 hours to complete half of the movie is hard to imagine unless your processor is very slow or the movie is inordinately long.

Incidentally, deflicker has to run an entire pass through the file before its effects can be applied...

Thanks i'll try that with the plugin.
The movie is tomb raider o 2 VCD's. I have a AMD 1,2GHz, is it too slow? I load the .dat file and choose ('converting to divx')... Is there another way to do it, so it goes faster?
