What would be a good air filtering solution for computer case? I think my stantard air filter is too thick and when i remove it, i can low temperatures by couple of degrees. I there any effective filters, that also allow better air flow through it?

metallic mesh, or Swiffer Dust Picker Uppers.

The metallic mesh is nice because it has a negative charge, while dust particles have a positive charge, thus a attraction is established.

Swiffer dust picker uppers are kind of the same idea, but they are easier to find and to cut to a desired shape.

A really good kludge is to use a piece of nylon hosiery... (pantyhose/stockings/etc.etc)

Just cut it to size and tack it into place with small dab of krazy glue at each corner. You can attach it directly to the fan, if desired.

If you have a woman in your life who can provide you with an endless supply of worn out hose, you don't even have to clean the filters, just tear em off and glue on a new one.

I can say from experience that this kind of filter is GREAT for pet hair.

Swifter Dust Picker Uppers.

Could give a link to those Uppers. Didn't found with Google.

It's SWIFFER, not swifTer. :p

The doctor's recommendation's the best. Just put it over the housing that's holding the filter.

Oops my mistake.

Okay, so Swiffer clothes, metal mesh, and pantyhose are the best.

There seems to be a leaning towards pantyhose for some odd reason. ;)

Wow, that looks really well made!

However, I would be concerned about that nice paint job interferring with the electrostatic properties of the metal filter... I'm not 100% clear on the science, but I'm pretty sure that you want air flowing over bare metal for maximum dust attraction.

it'll still attract the dust, but it won' stick as well, so bare metal is best

If your case is on the floor, setting it on a desk does wonders to reduce the dust that gets sucked in. My computer used to sit on the floor next to my desk and it sucked in copious amounts of dust (especially since I have carpet). When I rearranged my room, my case ended up on top of my bookshelf. Sucks in a lot less dust now.

My case is about 20CM/8,5" from the floor.

Yeah, even raising your comp by 6 inches will greatly reduce the amount of dust sucked in, specially if you have hardwood floors.

My computer is currently sitting on 4 phonebooks stacked up 2x2... Who says that the Yellow pages are useless in this modern computer age? ;)
