Goal: Back up DVD ripped VOB (and, ideally, anything else) losslessly into container-held formats.
Presently I am using Handbrake with 2-pass, de-interlaced, 100% "Constant Quality" to create anamorphic XviD+AC3/AVI (which is then direct-stream copyable into anything else via 3rd-party utilities). This generally results in DVD rips which are about 50% of source size. While the file sizes are still quite big, this is ameliorated by the fact that blank plastic is cheap, encoding is very fast compared to x264, the video looks really, really good, and you needn't worry about whether Grandma's old computer can handle playing it (because you know it can).
However, it's not truly lossless even if my beady, bloodshot eyes can't discern a difference, even when blow way up.
What out there, if anything, can rip losslessly while preserving display characteristics of the source (e.g., anamorphic), can pass-through AC3 (or encode with audio off), and doesn't require a degree in rocket-surgery to operate? I am more interested in encoding speed rather than smallest possible resultant file-size.
