Hello!

I'm not sure this belongs here in Xvid settings, in General, or in Newbie, but here it goes and I'll see if the wise admins know where to place it, heh.

I'm building an HTPC system to deliver video around my house. I plan on ripping and compressing my DVDs and VHS tapes with Xvid, and then using Media Portal to access them.

My question is that since an HTPC rather than a DVD player will be playing them, and since the display device is a widescreen TV rather than a monitor, what approach should I take to the topic of aspect ratios in the Xvid settings? Should I specify 16:9 or 4:3 depending on the video source, or should I worry about pixel shape (square or otherwise) instead?

As an additional complication, one of the guest room TV's is a 4:3.

Thanks for your advice, oh Wise Ones!
