View Full Version : Guide for Dual Layer Burning ?

I've been backing up dvd movies on single layer disks for a few years now. I currently use DVDFAB HD Decrypter to rip the movie to my hard drive, then I use DVD Shrink to burn it. I've decided to try the dual layer disks, as my burner supports it (Pioneer A08 or A09), and the disks have come down a bit in price.

Is there a simple tutorial or guide for burning on DL media? Do I need to find other software to burn with? I'm looking to keep it as simple as possible.

Hi!

1) For D/L burning, use only D/L DVD+R (Not "-R") media

2) To date, the only consistently successful brand of D/L DVD+R media is Verbatim

3) Do not attempt to use DVD Shrink for burning D/L media, as it does not properly deal with setting a "layer break" (a critical part of successful D/L burning).

4) Use the "IMGBurn" program for burning. It appears to do the best job of establishing viable "layer breaks"

@ setarip_old: I'm curious... I've tried to use Imgburn, as I keep seeing everywhere that it works best with the layer breaks... my question is... how?

I have tried burning a couple .iso's which are larger than 4GB, and I now have a lovely set of coasters. Nero, CDBurnXP, and now Imgburn ALL choke precisely at the layer break point (50% of the burn).

Is there something you need to set, other than simply "using" Imgburn? :thanks:

@homerpezI have tried burning a couple .iso's1) How did you create the .ISO image files? What software and procedures did you use?

2) Did you PLAY the .ISO image files (using VLC to play directly, or DaemonTools to mount and then play) rom start to finish?

3) Did you use Verbatim D/L DVD+R burnable media?

I have ripped to hard drive with dvdfab hd decrypter, do I have to use pgcEdit, I get an "error in burn set up: DVD Burner drive letter not set!.

Can I just go from dvdfab hd decrypter to IMGBURN?

Hi!

1) For D/L burning, use only D/L DVD+R ([COLOR="DarkRed"]Not "-R") media

Why is this please?

You can't bitset a -R, and +Rs are much more similar/compatible with normal DVD players than -Rs, especially for dual layer.

If you can get a -R DL to work on your player, awesome, but chances are you'll just lose money.
