Im trying to use MeGUI to convert alot of video for playback on a 360. Right now Im working with MKV files (anime with soft subtitles). I havent been able to find out how I can keep those subtitles with the video during the conversion to .mp4.

I saw the mp4 muxer under the tools menu, but it only support .srt and .idx type font files when I have .ass extenstion subs to work with.

When I extracted the subs from the mkv, I also found that thee is a font file included along with the seperate sub file. Will I just have to convert the sub .ass file to .srt or idx, or is there another method of doing this properly?

Im interested also becuase I have alot of videos to do and if I could automate the process within MeGUI, that would save alot of time of extracting the subs from each mkv and converting them beforehand.

Anyone have any similar experiences with converting mkvs with sub files?

I am mainly concerned with the sub converting properly to a format MeGUI's tool will accept without loosing the correct timing, etc.

SubResync can handle the .ass files and you can then convert them to .srt or any other format you desire. It's a part of the VobSub package. You can grab it from here (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/subtitle_tools/vobsub.cfm).

Alright, thanks for the info.

By the way, does anyone know if the 360 supports switchable subs with mp4s?

Nope only burned into the MP4 container subs will work nothing else.

i am having issues with subtitles created with megui not showing up when playing back the film, explorer shows they are there, as does haali, but neither mpc or media player will show them, vobsub in installed and loaded when the film loads, yet if i tell MPC to load an external sub file it works

edit - updated to new ffdshwo tryouts and subs are back, most be an issue with vobsub or something
