View Full Version : How to convert vob to mpg without reencoding?

Hello guys.

I've already backed up a few DVD-Video using MeGUI and x264.

But I'm having problems with the DVD-Video source. Normally I use TMPEGenc DVD Autor to rip a title to a .mpg file and then I use MeGUI's d2v creator and AviSynth Script Creator to edit video, and VDMod to demux audio and substitle. But with some DVD-Video, TDA creates more than one mpg file for each title, and I'm not able to merge them.

I googled for a TDA substitute, but all applications I found want to reencode the video stream, and not just convert vob to mpg like TDA does.

Could you guys suggest me an application that does this convertion, supplying me with a unique mpg file per DVD-Video title, with not-reencoded video and audio(s) stream, and if possible the subtitles too, so that I can use MeGUI on it?

tnx for the help!

Load all the title VOBs in DGIndex. Then set up for audio demux and then do Save project and demux video. You'll get video and audio elementary streams. Then remux the audio and video using TMPGEnc or Imago Muxer.

Hi!TDA creates more than one mpg file for each titleThis appears to defy logic.

Would you please be good enough to provide an example?

It's the Newbies forum; you can't expect logic!

That's why I requested an example ;>}

There's an older program call Vidomi that will convert a .VOB to an .MPG without re-encoding as well as merge multiple .VOB files into one large .MPG - under Options > General options, check the "Ignore settings and use MPEG copy code," and the output will be a single .MPG file.

How about VOB2MPG v2.5?

Tnx for trying to help guys and sorry if my english is not that good -_-

I will test the suggested applications and take a few pics of TDA working so that you can understand, soon I'll be back with the results :)

Trying to be more clear. On a DVD-Video there are many titles, each title can be hosted on several vob files and each vob file can host more than one title. I need an application that takes the DVD-Video as source, and provide me one mpg file for each title, with its video, audio and subtitle streams, and not reencoding the video and audio streams.
There are applications that if I use a vob file as source, it generates a mpg file with the first title it finds, but it doesn't have all the title's chapters. With TDA, on a few DVD-Video I used, it is creating more than one mpg file for one title. I want one mpg file with all the streams of the full title.

I'll be back after the tests :p

Well, VOB2MPG did the work, but with only 1 audio and 1 subtitle stream, without letting me choose which one :(

neuron2's suggestion was the best, DGIndex (standalone) did the work perfectly :D And it gives me the d2v file to use with MeGUI.

I also discovered PgcDemux that was able to demux every and each stream, but it wasn't able to find some extra videos on the DVD and DGIndex worked better anyway.

Tnx a lot for the help! ^^
