View Full Version : version 1.26.5 DVD-5 ISO too big with certain options

Jdobbs,

Hi! It seems that with version 1.26.5, when I set the following options:

[Options]
REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1

MODE - Steal Space from Extras (50%)
Encoder - HC -BEST setting

The created ISO image is too big for a DVD-5 disk (according to ImgBurn)

When I change just one option:

MODE - Steal Space from Extras (33%)

It creates a perfect ISO image.

This happened on three different backups.

You probably want more info, please tell me what to send you.

Thanks!

Have you changed your TargetSectors= at all?

REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1

Shouldn't have any effect on extra's unless you set RD to All VTSs

No.

I do not even have "TargetSectors= " in my REBUILDER.INI file.

I'd have to see what other settings you have -- as that may be wehre the problem is... send the REBUILDER.INI and REBUILDER.INF files to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com.

As Fishman0919 said, these settings:

REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1

have no effect on sizing -- they only redistribute what has already been calculated to be the amount needed.

JDobbs, did you get my files? I had to send each file individually, and I had to put the text in a MS WORD document.

My e-mail provider sent me a message denying sending you the e-mail, saying that I was sending you spam or something.

If you didnt get them, I will send all 4 files in a ZIP or RAR file.

I resent the 4 files in a compressed file last night.

Everything seems to be fixed.

Well, I made a backup at work using the same options, and the ISO size was just fine, so I decided to re-install 1.26.5 at home (where I was having the problems), and I replaced the existing INI file (of course, making a backup copy first, just in case).

Made all my changes to DVD-RB-Pro, and ran another backup using the above settings, and the ISO came out just fine.

Dont know what was wrong, but the fresh install and new INI file seems to have fixed the problem.

Well, I spoke too soon.

Even after re-installing 1.26.5 of DVD-RB-PRO, and using a new rebuilder.ini file, I still get a ISO that is too big for a dvd-5 disk.

ImgBurn message:
There does't seem to be enought disk space on the disk to burn this image.
Image Size: 2,346,964 Sectors (4,583 MB)
Disk Size: 2,295,104 Sectors (4,482 MB)

I might start playing with the
TargetSectors=
HCTargetSectors=

settings.

Is it just the ISO file thats too big.... what about the "DVDFiles" folder, can you burn the with Imgburn... is that too big?

Please post your REBUILDER.INI. If you are getting oversizing it is because of one of your settings. Usually it is caused by setting the minimum bitrate too high, and as a result the 50% reduction hits the min and can't get down to its required size.

OK, Pretty detailed post that took me a few days to test:

The culpret seems to be this setting in the INI file:
REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
(Edited to correct my posting error)

I wonder if using the AUTO-Q2 matrix has anything to do with my problem?

1st, I re-installed 1.26.5, OVERWRITING the existing Rebuilder.INI file.

2. I made a few personal preference changes in the program.

3. I ran the same rebuild 4 times, with the EXACT SAME rebuilder.ini file with the exception of these two lines:
REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1

Also, all other options were exactly the same.

Here are the resulting ISO files:
======================
OCEANS_THIRTEEN-no new ini settings.ISO
2,261,602 Sectors
4.31 GB (4,631,760,896 bytes)
(Good DVD-5 size)
======================
OCEANS_THIRTEEN-both new ini settings.ISO
REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1
2,347,014 Sectors
4.47 GB (4,806,684,672 bytes)
(TOO BIG DVD-5 Size)
======================
OCEANS_THIRTEEN-REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1.ISO
2,347,014 Sectors
4.47 GB (4,806,684,672 bytes)
(TOO BIG DVD-5 Size)
======================
OCEANS_THIRTEEN-REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1.ISO
2,261,677 Sectors
4.31 GB (4,631,914,496 bytes)
(Good DVD-5 size)
======================

Here is my rebuilder.ini file: (when I did use either one or both of the two new settings:
REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=1
REDIST_USE_FINAL_Q=1
they were listed first, just under options)

Seems it's the REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD not the RESDIST_FINAL_Q setting.

You are correct, my bad, I will correct my post if I can.

Thank you for catching this!

It's not a good idea to ever use a value of "1" there... keep the default value. You are telling DVD-RB to set the minimum size to that of a non-redistributed allocation... in other words you are saying "redistribute" but "don't redistribute from any of the files"... which is apparently confusing the sizing. If all the files are retained at a minimum of the non-redistributed bitrate, there is nowhere to grab bits for redistributing.

I guess leaving out the

REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=.5

would be the same as keeping it as the default.

I will just remove it from my INI file.

Thank You!

I don't go down that low. I find you can see segments (albeit darker ones and/or with little movement) with sub 2000kbps, which I really don't like. 80-85% is enough for me.

THANKS!

I mis-read the notes.

====================
CHANGES MADE TO PRO VERSION
- Added a REDISTRIBUTION threshold test that limits the amount of low-side deviation allowed in the calculation of redistribution. The default value of .5 limits a bitrate reduction (in redistribution) to half what would have been given in a standard DVD-RB encode. This dramatically reduces the likelihood of getting values that are too low in dark scenes. The threshold can be adjusted via a hidden setting in the OPTIONS area of REBUILDER.INI. The value (REDIST_LOW_THRESHOLD=) must fall in the range of 0 to 1. Any other value results in the default of .5
====================

I thought the only allowable values were ONLY ".5" or "1". I did not realise that I could put a range in there, so I changed it to ".85".

We will see what the results are.

Thanks again.

That doesn't leave much room for discretion on the redistribution, though...

What would you suggest, and as you "are the man",:sly: I would take your advice seriously!

Thanks.

In my experience - and for my eyes - the default value of 0.5 is normally a good choice for CCE and HC, in particular when one selects bitrate dependent matrices which DVD-RB re-allocates after the redistribution pass.
The low bitrate matrices that are kicked in give an extra safety margin because the redistribution is done with the Main Feature matrix.

Is there any chance that someone could help me out with my problem??
I'm sorry if I hijacked someone elses thread but it appeared to me that there were similarities......oversized files!!
