Current Status of Removing Media Player from Vista!

Anyone know of the current status of removing Media Player on US versions of Vista. I know the the EU has demanded this from Microsoft, but I want to do it on my machine without destroying the system.

I know a project must exist, whats its reliability and were do you find it.

vLite (http://www.vlite.net), but you can't remove the player from already installed system, it works by modifying the installation files (removing all the crap you don't want to get installed in the first place), so you will have to reinstall your system.
