I have spent about 1 hour searching your forum for an answer to my problem, so very sorry if I've missed a previous solution.. I have some old TV programmes that I have got hold of - (this is NOT copyright protected stuff!). Issue is that they are so say in .avi format and play perfectly on my computer by any player, ie WMP, but not on a couple of different standalone DVD players I bought. The players I bought claim to play all divx's and avi's etc and indeed in the 6 months I have had them I have not had a avi or divx that has not played. I burned the avi's onto a 4.7G DVD using nero as I have always done.
The notes that came with the file read:
"I have captured the first 15 episodes as aired via satellite by SciFi UK as an MPEG transport stream. After removing the commercials the files are compressed with AutoGK (Xvid) in the highest quality possible. Each file is 350 MB, which allows 2 episodes on one CD or 12 episodes on one DVD"
The quality of these TV episodes is excellent and I am choked that they cannot be viewed normally on my DVD player/TV. Is there a method to simply change the format to something my players will recognise? I have tried to change format by playing around with virtual dub, but if I try to save as say AVI it comes back with an estimated target siz of 9.5GB from a 350MB source! Please can someone point me in the right direction?
