Ok, so i've just got my new computer and i'm ready to do my first DVD rip to DivX4. I want to create a decent quality rip, and at the same time use both CPU's to get the job done as quickly as possible. I've heard that with dual processors, DVD's can be ripped to DivX in about 2 hours (is this correct?)

My system:
Dual Athlon 1600MP's
512Mb ECC DDR2100 Ram
Tyan Tiger MP
Geforce 3
60Gb Maxtor UDMA133
Hercules Gametheatre XP
Asus 16x DVD

What software would be best to use? I've heard Flask can use both processors, are there any others? What other software would i need apart from flask?

Secondly, what are the best encoding rates and filters to use? I have a PAL system.

Thirdly, what's the best way to encode the audio? I've heard people encode in MP3, which would be nice as my hercules gametheatre has hardware MP3 decoding.

Basically i'm looking for a decent guide to using Flask and other software needed, or a guide for any other program that has SMP support.

Thanks in anticipation

Well I remember reading a post a long time ago about Nandub/VirtualDub using dual processors, I can't find it now, but I believe there is *some* support. As you have a powerful processor (two of them), use Gknot. It's superrior to Flask in all ways. All software you need is on Doom9's web site. The best guides are on Doom9's web site. What filters you will need/want to use depend on what the video source is like. As for the audio... MP3 is the best, unless your computor can play AC3 and you don't mind having 2 CD movies. BTW, TMPGEnc has SMP support.
