double pass and "compile whole file"

In the guide of the doom9 web site is written:
"In order to enable automatic 2 pass encoding we have to uncheck Compile whole file and enter the lenght of the movie in seconds"
but even with the option compile whole file I was able to obtain the correct divX.Maybe the only strange thing is that the stime of the remaining time was totally incorrect. But in the end no problem.
So why is written that?

I think the guide was for ver 4.1 that had a bug with starting the second pass, its been cleared up in 4.2, anyway if it works why worry :-)

thanks,I only ask because when I select the duration in seconds the statistics during the two different coding phases were correct, instead with "compile whole file" were incorrect.
Thank you!

Well, I cannot encode the whole movie with XMPEG 4.2a. I tried, also tried specifying the length of the movie, but XMPEG just wont encode the whole movie (The Matrix, just for testing). I am using 2-pass divx 4.12 620Kb/sec with lame 128Kb/sec. AVI length is 2:09:09 and DVD length is 2:10:46. The avi is cut short during credits. Now why is that?

I would just check the length of the movie in Xmpeg, just drag the timeline bar to the end to make sure thats its all there (maybe the vob is cut short??), if you just wind it back abit before the end and press play you should get a time for the movie ( unless its in two or more bits then you have to add all the bits togther :-( ).
Dunno if that would help, but it would be my first port of call.

I already did that (forgot to write that). I get the same time (2:10:46) in Xmpeg. Xmpeg also plays the credits til the end but it wont encode them. I wonder why?
