View Full Version : High compression VS low compression...

There's something I want to know... So far, all DVDs that I encoded are from 45-55% and as I said in other thread, it took me about 12 hours to encode a DVD with my old PIV.

Will it take the same time if I encode a DVD through DVD Rebuilder with a reduction level over 93%?

Does the "high and low compression" have any effects on the speed during the encode (i.e more the compression is low, the faster the encode will be)?

P.S: I know that it is recommend to use the transcoding method for a such low compression, but it's not the point that I want to know...

HCEnc is said to be quicker if the bitrate is lower.

I don't know about that. From my experience, encodes with less compression, aka. higher bitrate, tend to run faster.

Encodes with higher compression, aka. lower bitrate, tend to run slower.

I can't remember if this is the case or not with HCenc, but I am pretty sure it is universal.

Encodes with higher compression, aka. lower bitrate, tend to run slower.if that is the case then I would probably rather think that the movie length is the variable that matters, with bitrate as a side product.
longer movie = lower bitrate (most of the time)
shorter movie = higher bitrate (most of the time)
