Greetings!
Well.. I am aware of the thread that explains the video profiles of MeGUI but unfortunately despite searching the forum and meGUI's wiki I couldn't locate a guide about it's audio profiles. As a result I don't know what's the difference between NDAAC and CTAAC or what LC,HE,HEPS etc stands for. Can someone en light me or give me directions? Thank you very much in advance!

NDAAC and CTAAC stands for the manufacturers of the codec.
ND is Nero Digital.
CT is Coding Technologies.

AAC comes in various forms.
Low Complexity is for mid to high bitrates. ( >80 kbps for stereo)
High Efficiancy is for low bitrates. (between 48 and 80 kbps for stereo)
High Efficiancy + Parametric Stereo is for even lower bitrates.

Hardware and software support is different for these. All decoders that can decode LC will also be able to decode the others, but sound quality will be worse since the HE information (SBR) and PS are not decoded properly.

For further information you can go to wikipedia. There are also listening tests for stereo encoding with these codecs available at www.hydrogenaudio.org

wow! That was a wealth of information! :thanks: So when encoding vids from dvd sources I guess I better stick to LC. And Could you Please advice me what "flavor" to use, ND or CT? I always give priority to codecs with better quality.

Some people prefer one, some the other. I personally don't feel there's a significant difference, and just use the nero one as it only requires a single .exe

Some say ND is better, some say CT is. Personally I don't hear a difference. I use ND because it comes as an easy download here: http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/eng/Audio.html

For backup I normally use the vbr mode at q 0.25 which gives me about 192 kbps (HE) for 5.1 tracks. I mainly use this settings because I feel higher bitrates would be unproportionally high compared with the video bitrate. If I ever get an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drive I'd go with higher bitrate LC.

If you need hardware support LC might be the better choice, but I have a PS3 that only decodes the LC part of my HE encodes and the quality difference doesn't bother me.

You really don't hear difference between 24000Hz and 48000Hz???

No, what I said is that there is nothing about the sound quality that bothers me. I'm not deaf. :)
I find that a bit strange myself since I can easily ABX LC AAC at 128 kbps, but then my headphones are much better than the speakers of my tv set. Also I always watch with low audio which may contribute to that.

atak, the sample rate represents double what the highest frquency of the audio is, so it's 24000Hz and 12500Hz :)

I doubt PS3 is able to decode HE part. So instead of "48Khz" you get "24Khz"! (LC part). Do you understand me now?!?!

If this is directed at me, then yes, I know.
I am not sure why you are so agitated since its not like I'm forcing you to be content with that quality. I just gave my opinion on the whole thing.

sorry to bump this, butI got a problem with Megui's latest build.

I cant use anything but mp3 format, and yes I got all the codecs installed.

every time I try to use.. example.. Nero's AAC.. I get the "error" in the queue after I click START..

some codecs (nero specially ) might take a few minutes to "check" the sound, but then the analyzing window will close and display the error in the queue again.

MeGUI points to a default location for ND Audio which may not be where your ND Audio is. You are sure the path location is correct? And does it have the same problem for other clips as well?

Edit: Didn't see Sharktooth's comment to post your log file... please do so!

tried 3 diferent VOBS from different dvd sources, they all give errors.
this is weird, since the mp3 one works just fine :|
and you can configure everything of the other profiles just fine but then when running them, it just.. blahs

shall try again and post the logs, maybe you're right regarding the paths...

I need to take a look to where the codec paths are stored.

Are you using the VOB as audio input, or demultiplexed AC3?

Yes please post the log

Poison: using the "megui" guide in their website
Ie, load vob with the dv2 thing ( Ie Dv2 proyect creator to demux )
then load the avysynth's to load the video stuff.
then I click the "sound" job first with a profile.
then do the bitrate and the video job.
but doesnt matter what profile I use, it always gives me "ERROR", only the mp3 based profiles seems to work for me.

If you haven't configured program paths for neroAacEnc.exe (if you are using Nero AAC), that is your problem

Options=>Settings=>Program Paths=>Audio

Also, you need to specify an audio input. This is not specified in the .avs file (by default, audio=false, if you are using the avs synth script creator)

I will check that ASAP.

nope, I did select the sound file! :>

*edit*
you were right, the Nero AAC files were not correctly set (the path and other stuff )
I wonder if other stuff is wrong, cause the other codecs also fail (only mp3 does work .. shall check that asap)
thank you !
