nVidia PureVideo in PowerDVD Ultra v7.3 || Lagging Issues

I just got the xbox 360 HD DVD Drive and connected it to my PC. I have a Samsung 32" HDTV I am attached to through DVI-I/sVGA. My processor is an AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+, and my Video Card is an eVGA nVidia 8600 GTS SC.


Everything is running smooth, except for when I load the movie, it is hella slow because my processor isn't fast enough. While running an HD DVD, Task Manager reports that I am using 100% of my CPU. This is the reason that they have nVidia PureVideo. I'm not sure if these options affect the nVidia PureVideo HD or not, but either way, I'm looking for a fix to my problem. The video is very choppy.

Under Video tab in Powerdvd, Uncheck high performance mode an Check Automatically enable Read-it-Clearly in full screen mode. After you have done this, Still under Video,click advanced at bottom. Make sure Smart de-interlacing is set to Perform hardware de-interlacing, The box should read some random numbers like (6cdf69578-7565-65g5-4r46hd46785).

Under HD DVD tab,click wide, turn off convert to sd then switch back to HD. Dont know if that makes a difference or not.

Uncheck enable hardware acceleration Nvidia purevideo save and restart powerdvd. Then open powerdvd back up and check enable hardware acceleration Nvidia purevideo again. Then go to advanced and see if those random numbers I was talking about are there now. I however seem to still be lagging. Just not as much. Sometimes I can watch about a whole 20 seconds before it chops out, then other times I can watch more than 20 seconds in about 3 single frames. I have closed all open programs and still no cigar. Are there any other options I can change without sacrificing quality?

I just dont think your processor is powerfull enough. Powerdvd recomends a 4400+ for amd and you only have a 3800+. I think you must upgrade. You can get a 4600+ at newegg for aroung $100,and should fit your motherboard(just a guess) if since both are same socket.

You should expect problems with Broadcast streams as PureVideo and ATIs hardware decoding aren't optimized @ all for it (mbaff/paff) and also still bugy in those regards, but HD-DVD and Blu-Ray should work without problems on this combination, also decoding interlaced content requires more power due to the Motion Adaptive Deinterlacing (double the framerate).
I don't think it has something todo with the processor as the full decoding should be done on Nvidias new Decoder Core except if it's VC-1.
The Vc-1 arithmetic decoding will still be done on the CPU, but that is a marginal amount and still should be running non choppy on his CPU.
I belive it's more a problem with another programm in the background that is polling something (DPC problem) and couseing this blackouts.

Also ram may play an issue. With my 4600+ oc to 2600ghz, 2 gig ram, Nvidia 7600+,and all other programs shut, runs at 40 to 60 percent on avc with nvidias hardware acceleration turned on. 2000ghz might be pushin it during high bitrate scenes.

I have two gigs of ddr400 ram. and CruNcher, I don't have an ATI Video Card. I can close every program in the background beside my antivirus and firewall and it will take less than 1% of the computer usage. Can anyone with not as good hardware play these without lag? I don't understand if there is a difference between nVidia PureVideo and nVidia PureVideo HD. (Because I don't see an option for the HD one in powerDVD.)
