How to open vdr files in TMpeg

I had a movie clip and a *.ssa file. I was trying to add the subtitles in the *.ssa file to the movie. This is what I did:

1) Launched VirtualDub
2) File->Open and open the Video
3) Video->Filter to configure the "subtitler" filter (Opened the the created .ssa file)
4) File->Start Frame Server to start the farme server. (I installed the VirtualDub "handler" before hand)
5) In the Frame Server Save dialog saved the file as "Test.vdr"
6) Then a window appeared, and it said Frameclients installed: AVIFile only. (I didn't close this window)
7) Then I Launched TMPGEnc
8) But when I tried to open the "Test.vdr" I created earlier. It gives an error.

So please can anyone help me with this? What could I have done wrong? Is there any other method to add subtitles (*.ssa) to a movie?

When Starting the frameserver, VirtualDub is asking for the filename (.VDR-Signpost for AVIFile handler - not to be confused with the Frameserver name!), give it the extension .avi instead of .vdr.

That should work.

Did you install the VFAPI plugin that comes along as a separate zip file with each release of TMPGEnc?

When I downloaded TMpg I didn't get a seperate zip file (do I have to download it seperatly?) , so I didn't install anything other than TMpg.

But I do get an option called VFAPI plugin inside environmental settings option. I even increased the DirectShow priority to 1, but No change.

Do you think it has to do anything with me using windows 95, may be these features of TMpg doesn't work in win95????

If you downloaded TMPGEnc from the TMPGEnc site, you will also have to download the VFAPI Plugin zip file(ends with -vfp.zip) should be on the same download page. This Zip file consists of three files (TMPGEnc.vfp and two BAT files to install and uninstall the vfp).
I am sorry,I am not sure of TMPGEnc compatibility with Win 95, you could check it out at the TMPGEnc site.
