View Full Version : Nvidia driver question for Video Acc in XP 8600

Why is it that the 162.18 drivers have Video Acceleration in XP on the 8600 cards when you goto the Display Settings > Advanced Settings > Troubleshooting? Yet on the website they say this under the description of the 162.18 driver....

"PureVideo™ HD support is currently only available on Microsoft Windows Vista for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 GPUs. PureVideo HD support for Windows XP will be available an upcoming driver."

The first driver that I know that allows video acceleration for the 8600 on XP is the 163.69 driver because they say....

"Added HD video post-processing for H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 HD content on the GeForce 8500 and 8600 series GPUs."

The 163.71 says..
"Added PureVideo™ HD decode acceleration for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 series GPUs."

How is the option to disable Video Acceleration even available in the 162.18 driver if that driver doesn't even support the feature untill the 163.69-163.71 drivers? Can someone please enlighten me because this doesn't sound right.

NVIDIA couldn't be arsed to get rid of the option?

IIRC they're BETA drivers anyway, so that's your cause. The effect is it's incomplete at the moment. The website lists the limitations for the official drivers, not the beta ones.

If that's the case then why is the 8600gt using the latest Beta driver 163.71 having the same section in Vista greyed out? You can't say that people in Vista using this "Beta" release aren't taking advantage of Video acceleration since the Beta is derived off the official release which you'll find lots of people using the Beta that are infact utlizing the Vid acceleration.

I also have an X800Xt and an X850Xt which both use VideoshaderHD and even when using the latest drivers they also have the option grayed out within the troubleshooting area. I'm seriously thinking that the option to disable and/or enable is somewhere else. Not the troubleshooting area like it was in XP.
